Duties An international buyer typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Understanding the buyer’s company practices and procedures, including accounting standards and regulations
- Negotiating price, terms of sale, shipping arrangements, and other details of transactions with suppliers
- Reviewing price lists and catalogs provided by suppliers and contacting them to request additional information about their products or services
- Preparing purchase orders for items that have been approved for purchase
- Ordering samples of products for further evaluation by their company
- Conducting market research to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their products, and determine pricing strategies
- Establishing long-term business relationships with suppliers and fostering mutual trust, respect, and cooperation
- Negotiating contracts with suppliers to buy goods or services on behalf of their company
